Composition Process

Richard has a great talent for interpreting both the client's brief and moving picture. As a multi-instrumentalist, his arranging skills exploit both instrument and synthesised textures to their fullest potential. For that specialist instrumentation, Richard employs some of the country's finest session musicians. Composing in any genre from orchestral to rock,  he produces music in perfect sympathy with, and reinforcing, the image it supports. Whether a downtown Manhattan chase scene or Darcy Bussell endorsing high tech sportswear, the music sounds like the picture.

Understanding and interpreting the brief are the crucial elements of composing bespoke music. Empathy with the client’s creative vision is indispensable. That's why communication with the client throughout the process is essential.

After discussing the brief and agreeing general direction and feel, which includes tempo, style and appropriate instrumentation, a musical sketch is created.

Once agreed that the sketch is on the right lines, it is developed to the finished product, consulting the client at every stage of development. The job of a professional composer is to deliver what the client wants
